The RIAS BERLIN COMMISSION Radio, TV, and Digital Media Awards 2017 – Call for Entries
The RIAS BERLIN COMMISSION presents annual awards for excellence in reporting on transatlantic issues. Awards are presented in three categories: Radio, TV, and Digital Media. In order to qualify a report must have been on a German topic aired domestically in the U.S. or on a U.S. topic aired in Germany, or be another local, national or international story of mutual interest, be it on politics, economics, security, social issues, culture or current events and developments.
Last year’s winners featured fascinating stories on justice scandals in the United States as well as an entertaining series short stories on the RTL TV network by Carsten Mierke that gave an interesting glimpse of the United States that helped German TV viewers understand important issues in the United States.
The top radio awards last year went to Simone Hamm of Deutschlandfunk radio for her story about a justice scandal in New York that explained why so many people are locked up in jail in the United States by taking a closer look at one New York City police detective who had an extremely high conviction rate thanks to dubious methods. A separate top prize went to Tom Schimmeck of NDR radio for his story about the tragic story of a German exchange student from Hamburg who was shot to death in the town of Missoula, Montana.
Entries from recent and former RIAS Fellows are welcomed, and encouraged.
